About Us
The V8 Masters Series was born following the untimely passing of renowned local race car engineer and constructor Owen Ashley in 2010, during the construction of the Ford Mustang lookalike cars.
Three of Owen’s clients — Charles Arton, Marcel Angel, and Tim Reddell — were already committed to the project. Determined to see the vision realised, they acquired the assets and established the V8 Masters Drivers Association to complete the remaining cars and launch the racing series.
A permanent base was set up at Killarney Raceway, featuring a fully equipped workshop for all the cars. The facility is staffed by a dedicated team of full-time technicians and mechanics responsible for the ongoing preparation and maintenance of every vehicle.
The V8 Masters cars are colourful, loud, powerful, and thrilling to drive. Because every car is built to identical specifications, the racing is always close and competitive — making it the Blue Riband event on the Western Province regional race calendar.
The series has become a firm crowd favourite. As more high-profile drivers join the grid, the V8 Masters continues to grow in popularity and prestige. It’s also an ideal category for business sponsorship, thanks to its wide-ranging appeal — from the successful entrepreneurs who take part, to the motorsport enthusiasts who fill the grandstands to cheer on their favourites and watch top-name drivers showcase skillful, high-speed car control.
V8 Masters remains one of the most cost-effective racing formulas recognised by Motorsport South Africa. It’s a true match-racing series: every driver competes in an identical car, each dyno-tuned to the same power output and running on the same tyres.
All participants must be over 35 years of age and members of the V8 Masters Drivers Association. Each member contributes a monthly subscription, which covers the salaries of six full-time staff and the maintenance of our fully equipped workshop and storage facilities.
